Max's 4 month appointment

We took Max for his 4 month well-baby appointment this morning and he did great! Here are the latest stats:

Weight: 14 lbs, 15 oz (50th percentile)
* up from 11 lbs, 0 oz, which was also in the 50th percentile at 2 months.

Length: 25" (50th percentile)
* up from 22", which was also in the 50th percentile at 2 months.

Head Circumference: 40 cm (10th percentile)
* up from 38 cm, which was in the 25th percentile at 2 months.
* she said there is a trend of his head still growing and he's meeting his developmental milestones, so she's not concerned about him being at a lower percentile this time.

He is meeting most of the milestones they check for - reaching for objects, grabbing objects with this fingers, smiling and laughing with us, and rolling over. The one milestone he is not doing yet is sleeping through the night. I'm pretty sure their checking on his sleeping through the night is more so she can talk to us about it, not a sign of things potentially not going well. I've heard that it is normal for many babies to take a long time to sleep through the night. She gave us some suggestions for how to let him cry for a few nights so he can learn to soothe himself, but we won't be trying anything like that until his shots aren't even a memory for him.

So, once again he's obviously growing and thriving!!!

She commented on his strength and said that based on his already starting to scoot forward and backward, he will likely be "taking off" faster than normal. She advised us to start baby-proofing the house and getting ready for him being all over the place. Time to start looking at the house from his perspective and securing the temptations!

Max also got 4 shots (DTaP, Prevnar, HIB, and IPV), which probably hurt us more than him. He was supposed to get his second HEP B shot too, but they forgot. We'll just do his second HEP B when he would have gotten this third and he'll get the third and final one later. He is too young for the flu shot, but Alex and I were instructed to get one to protect him if we should be exposed to it.

He fell asleep while comfort nursing in the doctor's office, and woke up in good spirits, as though nothing had happened. Hopefully this will continue through the day, but if not, I have infant Tylenol at the ready. And as always, he will have mommy's undivided attention all day today to make him as comfortable as possible.
