Max at School

This was the scene when Nick and I arrived to pick up Max from school today. His answer when I asked if he wanted to go home was, "No!" - which I guess wasn't a huge surprise given the "Big Book of Things That Go" in his lap.

Max has been doing great at school. He has even pee'd on the potty twice each day at school this week! Given the major life transition from having a new baby brother, we're in no rush to potty train, but this is a great start!

Max is always apprehensive about going to school in the mornings, but this morning Alex discovered a great trick. Along with the other kiddos in his class, Max has been fixated on Dora the Explorer lately. So when it was clear that Max's preference would be to "stay home with mommy" (although mommy wouldn't be home all morning anyway), Alex enthusiastically talked Max into making a map of how to get to school.

Those familiar with Dora will understand the significance of this kind of sequence: Mountain... River... School! We don't really have a mountain to cross on the way to school, but a rather big incline on a highway sufficed for his needs.
