We're home! Around 3:30 this morning we were asked to move to another room in the "patient care" side of the floor, because they were expecting several soon-to-be-born babies that morning. It was funny to go from being the only couple on the floor to needing to make room for all the rooms to be full. I hope all their births went smoothly...
At 6:00 AM the nurse assigned to Max took a final blood sample to the lab to determine his bilirubin levels, which determines his level of jaundice. The 24 hours of light therapy worked and we were released to go home at 9:00 after meeting with their on-call pediatrician. Max settled into his new surroundings with grace, and I got to enjoy a "real" shower for the first time in several days. Alex's parents ran errands for us and took over cuddling duty so I could get a short nap this afternoon.
It will be interesting to see what it is like to be on our own tonight, without nurses coming in to check my blood pressure or to monitor our breastfeeding efforts. On the plus side, it seems that my milk is coming in now, so Max is having an easier time chowing down!
