Easter 2011

Each holiday we explore different ways to celebrate and try out new traditions. This year the Easter Bunny came inside and hid eggs in the living room, and left baskets for each boy on the kitchen table.

Alex had gotten home from a week-long trip in China late the night before, and was in serious need of sleeping late. Here he is, sitting in the cockpit of his plane during a flight delay due to weather in DFW:

The boys tried to wake him up at 8:30, but it was obvious that he really needed more sleep. I distracted the little guys the best I could until 10. I felt bad for the boys, who had not only seen their Easter eggs, but also seen the baskets left by the Easter Bunny, and really wanted to get into them. He was going to have to wake up soon anyway, since we were having Grandad over for lunch in a few hours.

First we let the boys find the 12 eggs, which the Easter Bunny had filled with Puffs and Veggie Booty. Mmmmm... Here you can see Alex is still trying to wake up:

I tried to get a good picture of the baskets, but here Max gives in to temptation and grabs for an item in his basket:

And here is Nick's turn:

(doesn't Grandad look great?!?!)

After saying good-bye to Grandad and playing with our new toys for a while, we decided to get Alex some time in the sun, to help his body to adjust to the 13-hour time change again. We went to Windmill Run Park, which was very close to being destroyed by a wild brushfire one week before. After playing on the structures for a while, we walked to the back of the park and found the edge of the burned trees. Although the fire had been extinguished several days before, you could feel the heat from the trees:

We came back to the main part of the park and found a kitty, begging for a little attention. Our boys were overjoyed to talk to it, but we didn't let them touch him/her:
(Nick had done a sudden face-plant earlier and got a sad little cut under his left eye, hence the band-aid. That bandage didn't last a single second once we got in the car and he was not distracted by the kitty.)

So, it was a busy and fun Easter for everyone. At the writing of this post, a week later, Alex has gotten back on schedule and Nick's cut has healed.
