You have to look close, but you can see the tiny eggs waiting to be claimed.
I wanted to get a few pictures of Max with several eggs to choose from, so I got in line with the rest of the kids. The egg hunt had a provision this year that kiddos under 2 would get to start a few minutes before the rest of the more able candy-crazed kids got a chance. A few of them eyed me suspiciously, thinking that I was trying to sneak ahead to get candy for myself (Max was snuggled up in a front carrier, so to them it probably didn't look like he was really participating.)
The anticipated word was given, and I aimed for a section of eggs that wasn't in the direct path, hoping to buy a few more moments of picture time.
Just as Max started to seek out eggs, the next phase of the hunt began. Here you can see the race of the "over 2" kids when they were given the green light. There had been a number of false starts prior to this, with many a mommy calling after their elderly munchkins to come back and wait their turn.
We ran into his friend from Music class, Lilian, and they had a brief exchange. Nothing too profound, but a quick, "Hey, what is with all these brightly colored eggs strewn about?"
Soon after this photo, the "over 2" crowd swept through the area and removed all eggs, much like a swarm of locusts would devour a field. All that was left to do was have a friendly passerby take a photo of Mom and Max.
