More Doctor!

Nick has been sporting a runny nose with off-and-on lovely green secretions for a few weeks now, and after having gone through this routine with Max a few times, we knew it is likely some sort of sinus infection. He hasn't had a fever, but has been clingy and not been eating that well for the past two weeks or so. So, I decided that we should get him checked before the weekend.

Our usual doctor was booked, but they had one appointment left with another doctor in the practice. We've seen her before and felt comfortable with her as well. It was at the end of the day, so the wait was longer than usual and the boys were both a bit wound up by the time we got into the exam room.

She listened to his chest, examined his ears, nose, and throat - all the usual things. Nick was a great help. He lifted up his shirt so she could put the stethoscope directly on his skin and was a patient lamb while she scooped out the always-present excess wax in his ears. Everything checked out fine, and she could see the drainage on the back of his throat. She started to give us her diagnosis and treatment plan (sinus infection and amoxicillin), but Nick wasn't ready for the exam to be over. He reached for her hands and pleaded, "More Doctor!"

At this point we were trying to put his shoes back on and listen to the instructions, but he was trying his hardest to get her attention. So I laid him on his back and started giving him my own "exam", looking in his mouth, nose and ears. He laid perfectly still and Alex was able to slip his socks and shoes back on, all the while the Doctor was able to give us the necessary instructions. Phew!

He has always been a great patient, so calm and easy-going while being examined and taking his medicine without any kind of fuss. I wonder if his first month of life being spent in a hospital had any influence on that. Not that I would recommend it, but it is a nice contrast to Max's protests about taking medicine.
