Two weeks ago, Max had tubes inserted in both ears and his adenoids removed. Like mother, like son. His grandmother, Neeme, was waiting anxiously for updates and status reports, so I sent her pictures on my phone, chronicling the entire experience. For posterity, here is the progression in pictures that morning...
We arrived at to the reception area of the surgery center at 6:15 AM and got checked in. Max was up to his usual hijinks and ran around the large waiting room (which fortunately did not contain any individuals anxiously awaiting news of their loved ones). This was fine until we noticed the water dispensing machine in the back of the room, and knew there was significant danger of him exploring it further. Even more concerning was the potential of him partaking in some of the refreshingly cool water. He was supposed to have no food or drink prior to the procedure, so Alex followed him around to provide interference if necessary.
Max reads a book to daddy while waiting for the nurse to come prep Max for his surgery. They suggested he wear his pajamas, and so it seemed only appropriate for him to wear his doctor pjs. His ENT thought they were hilarious and called several other doctors over "to see the new intern".
They wanted Max to wear a special gown that opened in the back, but Max was NOT having it. Here Alex is working on talking him into it. We finally gave up and decided they could change his shirt when he was asleep if it was really necessary. They never did, so it apparently wasn't too important.
I want stickers! I had packed several things to distract Max, and the stickers were a huge hit. They ended up on the bed sheet, on my shirt, Alex's shirt, his pajamas... pretty much anywhere Max could reach.
You can see how his facial expression is much more subdued here. He had just taken the Motrin with Demerol and it was taking affect fast!
A few minutes later he willingly left with Joanne, his nurse. She was taking him to see a "present".
Less than an hour later, he was back in Mama's arms.
I tried to take a picture of him on the way home, and this is him saying "cheese". Don't think he quite understood that a smile is supposed to accompany the word "cheese" when a camera is involved. He was definitely still out of it from the anesthesia.
By 9:30, we were home and Max was all snuggled up in a "nest" with a chocolate moo in hand, Animusic on the tv. Life is good :) We thought he'd stay in this position most of the day, but it lasted maybe an hour. The rest of the day we tried in vain to get him to take it easy and maybe nap some. So much for the discharge instructions to let him rest because he would be sleepy for a day or two.
Here are the "presents" he had picked out with the nurse when they took him back for the surgery. Apparently he said he needed 3 - one for him, Daddy and Nick. :)
Not sure if Nick was as impressed with the glasses, but it sure looked cute :)
Again, so much for being sleepy for a few days... here he was the next morning at My Gym.
We had a follow up appointment with the ENT two weeks later, and his ears look perfect! Woohoo!
